An Adventure of the Midnight Menagerie
Log by Morrin Telemnar
Captain in the Raven’s Bluff War College
Sergeant in the Scout Ranger’s Division, Raven’s Bluff City Watch
Squire to the Keepers of the Mystic Flame, Raven’s Bluff Knighthood

Our story begins on an evening during the War. Several members of the Menagerie were gathered by members of the Temple of Tyr and were led to an undisclosed place beneath the Temple of Mystra. We found ourselves at a table with 10 members around it, they each represented one of the 10 major civic religions of the city.

Lark Thorncastle (Chauntea), Mistress of Luck Clarissa Tupkas (Tymora), Lord of Mystery Chester D’Marke (Mystra), Reverend Judge Hyros Allumen (Tyr), Vigilant Master Darrel Ironhands (Helm), War Master Carlos deVentura (Tempus), High Moonmistress Mirial Moonsilver (Selune), Revelmistress Rachel Arren (Lliira/Waukeen), our newly appointed Chief Prelate, the esteemed High Morninglord Relarn Dayspring (Lathander), and, Father Otis Gregor (Gond).

Father Otis would be the one talking to us. We discussed the morale of the city in recent days, how it was low from the war, we also discussed how it was the 75th anniversary of some Dwarven holiday (maybe I should check with Tepal and see what it was again…), that specific anniversary was thought to be lucky. Thus, in the hopes of raising morale, the circle wanted us to look for some old tome that had been lost in the sands of time. The tome was thought to carry magical powers to inspire those who read from it. They wanted it retrieved by the anniversary which gave us two days. Eventually we agreed, of course, being the brave and fair adventurers we are how could we not at least try for the city. Even if this item was likely gone forever.

To address this the Mirror of Mental Prowess was brought forth and a painting of a battle between Drow and Dwarves which was the last place the book was thought to be. Oh, and right before we left we were warned to keep an eye out for the Heart of Bane, apparently it was suspected to be present in the area we were going to. Other than that they didn’t know much, there might be “clues” nearby. It was looking like we were going to need that luck more and more. We make our final preparations and are transported by standing on the crystal mirror into time long past.

We arrive into the night, somewhere south of Raven’s Bluff geographically though I don’t remember which time period anymore, perhaps Mok might remember. Regardless, the smell of smoke permeated our noses as we stood in some open field with the wind lightly cresting us. As we begin to look around, aimlessly I might add (mental note: next time I teach a lesson at the War College I am going to emphasize proper intelligence gathering before a mission), we found a stone with Dwarven runes that were unreadable but looked to have been inscribed lately. Well, that was super helpful other than telling us there were probably Dwarves around, somewhere… nearby… hopefully.

Continuing on we wandered the landscape for a few hours, a sense of foreboding growing ever stronger as we persisted. Oddly the night persisted just as we did, seemingly endless and with no sense of daybreak coming, eventually, once bleakness was ready to overcome myself we stumbled upon some Kobolds. We found them upon a group of dead Dwarves and ended up in a quick scuffle which lasted not even 10 seconds as several were charred out of existence. After questioning them to little avail, several ended up dead on the ground. The fists of a “powerful” wizard too much for their fragile bodies. We did find out that some Drow leader had instructed them to So that didn’t help.

From there we did manage to find a group of survivors who had not died to the Kobolds. After discussing with them we learn that we are in the year DR 606 (our time is currently DR 1306) and, coincidentally, they had never head of a city called Raven’s Bluff. We also learned the refugees were going to some King known as the “Elf Slayer” (which was not what I really wanted to hear… but okay… sure, we went with it). We left the refugee’s for a while, who were in no particular rush and started to make our way to this “Elf Slayer”. The journey was not the most comfortable, it was windy and it looked like a storm might break at any time, not to mention it was still bloody dark. We did stumble into some Drow along the way, but fortune (or misfortune) had it that they never noticed us and we lost sight of them, so we did not give chase. At some point we saw what appeared to be something massive on fire in the distance, we were unable to make out exactly what it was but it appeared to maybe be a city. Our curiosity sparked, so to speak, we continued on trying to make light of the situation at hand. At one point we decided to nominate Tepal as the official party leader, we figured she would be the best bet interacting with her own kind, especially since her companions were of Elven and Orcish descent….

Finally we stumbled into a Dwarven patrol, and not soon enough given the nature of things, after some discussion they mentioned that we should follow them back to their camp. This most most agreeable to us as it seemed a likely way to acquire the information we desired. As we approached the camp we got quite the show as some sort of creature that looked like a bat out of Hell (or maybe the Abyss) came swooping in an ariel dive at the camp… only to be blasted quite splendidly out of the air by some powerful magic user. Mok must have have been impressed.

We had to leave our magical equipment at the gate entrance, for safety reasons of course. Eventually we got an audience with the Dwarven King who listened to Mok give our tale. Eventually it was decided that the King would give us the book but on the condition that we assisted with dropping off a magical bomb behind the Drow’s lines. We agree, with little choice, but really, burn the Drow anyways. With our mission set for early morning we thank the King for the opportunity and get some well deserved shut eye.

The next morning we are awoken and given instructions on the specifics of the mission, such things were withheld till then to minimize the chance for a leak. Our goal was simple, bring the Bomb to a location marked by an alter, where we were to stab a magical sword of mithril into it. Once deposited we were to head towards another location called Bald Mountain where the King would meet us with the book. With everything in order we headed out. We summon several magical horses and began our march, first through the Dwarven lines covering the Plains. After much traveling we came upon a structure (being behind enemy lines at this point), some sort of outpost. First we thought to ignore it but then we heard screams coming from within, the sounds of what we later would learn was several men being tortured. After some quick discussion we decided that the lives of a few men was less important than successfully delivering the bomb, helping to stop the army, and getting our book to help save the city. With great reservation we left the screams and kept moving towards the alter.

Finding the alter without any other trouble we stabbed the sword into it, as we did so, the surrounding land was bathed in a bright binding light and the screams of untold Drow raked the air in two as the light sensitive creatures were heavily damaged by it. Having succeeded we back tracked towards the torture chamber on our way to Bald Mountain, too late of course. Continuing we made it back to Ronan (the King for reference) who congratulated us on a job well done. As a reward he produced the Tome we had been looking for, burying it in a clearly marked spot for us to find in our time.

As the energies of the glass mirror started to falter, we found our time nearly up, not a moment too late. As we fade from existence, we are startled to see Faldor and Dannel resist the energies and stay behind to help the Dwarven army. Men of honor they were, for we knew history, and history said this battle had no survivors. Our last view was of a mighty clash of swords and sorcery between creatures of the Underdark and the Dwarven army. With Faldor Lockeheart unleashing a hellstorm of arrows and Dannel of Tyr bringing divine energies to sunder those who would defile the laws of goodness and justness.

Arriving back in our time we manage to find the Tome, whose location was now known to us. The canvas we had used as a reference point being much the same with the inclusion of Faldor and Dannel now included, their efforts not going unnoticed by the recorders of history. We find out that the Tome wasn’t actually magical, merely it carried inspiring words. But, as it often is, the presence of it alone was plenty enough to help bolster the hearts of many defenders of the city during the celebration.

War means change. No where is this more present than in Ravens Bluff. The city, once a bustling metropolis of culture, commerce, and knowledge, has become something completely different. The once joyous sounds have shifted. Gone are the hawkers’ cries, the children playing, and the songs of bards. Now all one can hear is a hushed, nervous whispers and the clacking of practice weapons as soldiers repeat weapon drills in the street. Nothing remains the same.

Even our own lives have been turned upside down. In the months since the war broke out some have been pushed around, organized, taxed, conscripted, enlisted and drilled. Your lives, and the lives of everyone in Ravens Bluff, has become so involved with the military that you wonder if you remember what peacetime in the city was like. A very enthusiastic military has reduced the lives of the citizens to “Yes sir!” and “No Sir!”, “Get to work Soldier!” and “Did I ask you to think, boy?!” Personally this makes perfect sense to me.

In fact, that’s what we were doing now: following orders. We were ordered to General Obespieri’s office. The general is in charge of Ravens Bluff’s external forces, and there is rumor that the army may be headed north for the largest battle to date.

We arrived at the General’s quarters as the sun reaches its apex and are quickly ushered inside. The general, an incredibly muscular man with dark hair, looks up from his papers as you enter. He flips you a quick salute and leans back in his chair. His piercing black eyes scrutinize you and you begin to feel surprisingly uncomfortable under his icy stare.

The inn looks more like a barracks than a place for making merry; tired townspeople sit on trestle benches at tables along the walls, and tables of supplies face the kitchens. Straw mats stacked in a corner attest to the fact that the injured are brought here during attacks. The innkeeper, now the village quartermaster, a ruddy-cheeked man, eyes you warily. You can see that a couple of people are doing just that in a corner, but they bear the look of Ravens Bluff soldiers. A bard plays quietly by the bar.

Ambassador Carrague has summoned us to the Ministry of Art. There have been multiple flyers requesting assistance by Ren found circulating the city . We have been asked to to investigate to keep amatures and less experienced

Adventurers Needed
Good Pay
Easy Work
400 gp to retrieve a few simple items
Please see Todd at Ren’s Mansion
near the Ministry of Art

Ren requested us to go shopping for him. He needs a better body and will be transferring his mind into to a fighter. The rather involoved list read as follows .

Ingredients Needed:

1.Water from the Elemental Plane of Water ‑ seem to recall a portal to the elemental plane of water at the base of the city waterfall. I believe the only access is from Lemming’s Leap.
2.Fresh dirt collected at night from a grave ‑ this should be simple, people die every day, someone should be being buried.
3.Blood from a Red‑haired commoner ‑ I believe this needs to be freely given but who knows.
4.Leaves from six different trees that all grow entwined. ‑ I am not sure were this is but I have hired a sage named Carlisle to research an answer.
5.A magical white lily from the “Pond of Lilies” an ancient inn and tavern that once flourished in the ancient city of Sarbreen. ‑ I have a map that should lead into the correct section of Sarbreen if that mercenary drow wasn’t lying to me.

We met with sage named Carlisle who was hired to research an answer. He claimed that Ren did not make the final payment. The final payment is groceries but every time we asked the items and amounts changed.

We setled on a couple of lemons
couple of oranges
a dozen approcots
a couple of dog treats a few loaves of bread
a block of cheese;.
After going thru this a few times he said oh you can bring it tomorrow.

Small grove on south road …directions to the entwined trees that compete for the sun and gives us directions
I summoned Godrick to me for the first time and we rode off.
We CAME ACROSS AMY SUE AND BARB SICK MOM 2 LOH AND GOT BLOOG PAID 20 GP FOR TROUBLE AND BLOOD AS THEY WERE BOTH GINGER
mok left them information to contact him at the ministry to help at eventual guild hall

we ran into Roger daymorelane Morrin Recognized him we only saw a grazely injured man with a shield marked with a hawk

He was over run by an orc tribe that till now they were not aggressive towards city till now . WE healed him and he was off with the intellegence.

We quickly made it to the tree Faldor gently climbed it and was able to gather the leaves with out damaging the tree

We headed back to the city feeling rather satisfied and knowing full well this was going too well . A group of human warrior were along the road and halted us after we made a brief exchange the men raleyed themselves up to a frenzy. The were were-boars. Our battle was short.

We headed to the waterfall at lemmings leap A cleric of Tempus is usually heat giving tour he was absent with all the ongoing battles.

“Once, Tempus gifted his loyal followers with the foreknowledge that to leap from this point would deliver a true follower to a hidden ledge deep in the heart of the waterfall.Be it known that Kantor of the temple of Tempus and Rictor of the Cracked Tusk both leap courageously into the mist.Long Time Running and Niblik both followed bravely for although they were not followers of Tempus, they were friends of Rictor. Then, by the words of Tempus, Cateyes was pushed. No not who pushed Cateyes, but by the holy word of Tempus, Cateyes was pushed.”

A one eyed man came out of the brush to let us know the portal was closed and said we were asked detailed questions about the city its government and institutions and filed miserably so he left. So Mok just swam around and scooped up the “special water”

we then followed the map down to Sarbreen then we had to dig A lot. A potion of Fire Giant Strength allowed me to plow through it quickly.

we dug down to the inn it was very moldy and decrepit, in a tiered fountain we found the Lilies an upper tier help one that was magical

2 door were there Mok opened one and closed it quickly." DO Not go in there!" and hasty barricading the door followed the door on the left was a simple pantry. we left the way we came in and collapsed the tunnel behind us.

One last ingredient to go. We needed the dirt. We all headed to the the city cemetery
we ran into someting called a firestar. Like a Will-o-wisp just less agressive.

Then we headed to rens he freed Todd and then drank potion and exploded todd had a potion too he gave it to us he was scared Morin drank it he will now be able to cast burning hands once per day.

Seems Ren and the Wizard Guild were getting aggressive towards the Ministry of Art we followed Ren;s instructions but it seems to “wild Magic”

First thing the morning we were all received and urgent summons to The Wizards Guild. We were not to meet with the Sir Alcides Von Tighe this day. Instead we were greeted by Gerbor a small gnarly mage in blue robes that seemed to have an awkward tic. The spell component ration has been crushing to us all, he had not seen some in weeks. A large supply of components was on its way. It was right up until it was lost somewhere near the island of trundle during a storm. The island lays a few miles off the coast of Procampor. A sea Captain Flintar Merky of the ship the Merky Lady was in charge of the lost ship. One Captain is familiar with the ship and where it went down we were tasked to board the second ship and if possible recover the components.

We agreed of course to assist the city and attempt to salvage the components. We went straightaway to meet with Captain Sylus of the Windspray.

The city I have called home these last few years since that fateful caravan is now undeniably at war. Now out attacker has a name Myrkyssa Jelan. Many of the creatures we’ve seen about the city then all of the mixed troops the bizarre magical effects and wards are all under control. the orphanage that we assisted in find out what happened to their children turns his eye to us and other adventures with this trust for some reason. I really wish we would have recover those girls. and as if things haven’t gotten bad enough it seems our resident rogue has gone rogue. I keep waiting to find out that it’s an imposter or something but the fact that that idiot Caesar showed up at his side was more of a coincidence then I could stomach. I wish Px were still in his hands so it would have just blown him up. Unfortunately they probably would have taken most of the city with it. I couldn’t believe it when I read the article in Raven’s Bluff Trumpeter Volume 2 Issue 2 I really hope I find him first.

"Sirrus Melandor Slain! – By Jenna

Shortly after Sirrus Melandor sent in his article for this edition of the Trumpter, he was slain. Gevus of the Midnight Menagerie was seen at a speech, being given by the Chief Prelate to bolster the morale of the people. The information we are being given is that the Chief prelate was slain with a magical blade that can cut through armor, and that poison was on the blade. Gevus then hopped off the platform, was seen sheathing the blade and was accosted by the city watch, including Sergeant Avon Elonis. The story might have ended there but a paladin, another former member of the Midnight Menagerie (before they were such as named) Ceaser swung a giant two handed sword at Sergeant Elonis sending him into the infirmary. Ceasar told Gevus to run, and the last thing heard was “Don’t worry, your diamond is waiting for you as payment. You will be set for life. Myrkessa will be pleased. Currently the Midnight Menagerie is working through their issues, and they are working to determine if Gevus is still a member, or what shall occur. Suspicion has been cast upon the whole adventuring group. One member of the Infernal hunt club, who wished to remain anonymous at this time said. See I knew there was a reason they were rising so far, so fast as an adventuring group. They don’t have the cities best interests at heart. Another problem that exists is that, Sirrus’ spirit is unreachable. Attempts to resurrect or even speak with his dead body are not working. Does the armor of bane having something to do with that? At this point we can only speculate. Unless anyone has any new information, Gevus has already been tried by Judge Rupert T Hangman, and has pronounced a sentence of death should Gevus be found. In accordance with the law, any Lord, Judge, Knight Commander or Knight Captain can carry out this sentence immediately. Rolf SUnriver is seeking permission from the Lord Mayor to extend this power to the city’s Generals, and the Captains of the watch as well, and it seems as if that will be official shortly. Ceasar is wanted for assault upon a city officer for his attack upon Avon Elonis."

With all we had on our plates we retired to the 7 Tigers INN. The Remembrance Day celebration seemed like a good time to think on the past and those that we have lost and where to go from here. Not to mention how to repair our once solid reputation. The feasting and toasting were in full swing when we arrived. The Festival of Remembering is a holy day dedicated to remembrance of the dead. Loved ones are toasted. We remember the dead with a glass of ale flavored with honey and bitters to symbolize sweetness and sorrow. As we joined the other guests we toasted those in mid remembrance. It seems even with the heavy rationing there was still enough to go around when it came to food a few roast goats and birds were over the fire and we all sat down toward drinks. We drank with other adventureing groups toasted there fallen comrades. We did over hear a woman verbally accosted by one group as she requested their assistance. I must have been so distracted by everything going on I didn’t even hear it right away. Mok umped to her side. We were introduced to her Lady Dianna Eldermore. Her parents died enroute to Orlimmin she’s now here seeking assistance to claim an inheritance. An inheritance outside the city. She needed the help recovering the inheritance . She said she could pay 50 gold pieces each for any assistance. Now this seemed a little low considering the fact that she had a huge diamond ring. But who am I to question. A fancy bauble does not allow wealthy merchant make. But I don’t know who to trust sometimes lately. She explained t time is of the essence but would go no further till we agreed to assist her. She showed us the scroll

Long ago in far off mists, Eldermore left the lands.
Harkenglen is nothing now but stones upon the sands.
If ye be an Eldermore, rich treasures still await.
Get thee quick to Harkenglen and pass the magic gate.
Only on autumn’s eve when night and day contend,
May you pass the gate and enter Harkenglen.
Bring mighty champions, worthy of the fight,
Pass the gate at dusk but leave ere the end of night.

Lady Eldermore was placed upon the back of Mok’s horse, Victoria. The Lady and Mr. Pointy were instructed to keep safe and she was instructed in the use of the flying saddle to make an escape in case of emergency. As we left the city the first time we came to was a large clearing at the bottom of the hill side. There we could see a group of men tossing dead bodies in the fire. Were they our troops or not remained to be seen. We decided we would take the polite approach given the time of year and the Day of Remembrance. The Vast holiday seems to have caused everything to be very quiet on the front surrounding the city. Here the humans seem to have still taken the day seriously as for those not of our kind who knows. Morrin, Danell and myself approached. I detected no evil from them. I was instructed to raise my right hand if they were friendly and left if they were enemies and we were in trouble. It also meant I needed Mok to start throwing fireballs very very quickly. We approached calmly. We made greetings politely discussed the trials of the battle and I worded it in such a way which escapes me now that did not give away our allegiance. They definitely showed theirs. The Kosuthian priests walked into the flame to honor their dead and when they spoke of how the city would eventually fall was when I began to raise my left hand. Morrin stopped me to remind me of the holiday. This fight could wait. We’ll be remembered by the dead there’s nothing to be gained to fight it out today. We left them for another day.

Our troubles became trully evident when we came across a clearing the Harkenglen exactly where we had expected to find it on the map. There was little there to speak of except a large camp. As we approached we were not the first ones there. TROLLS… lots and lots of trolls. We managed to cut through them but far slower than we would have expected. Especially with Mok throwing fire from both hands. They usually….well trolls are usually so susceptible to fire. I brought down wrathful smiting power of the Red Knight upon them. I cut through them one after another. They did not seem to stop coming and some were casting spells. I had heard of but never come face to face with a troll mage. Morrin seemed to get hurt in a way I had never seen before. We had them on the run but time was not on our side this time. Twilight fell and made left us no choice but to enter gate pass beyond; else we would not be able to until next year.

========================================================================================================================

Before I played a beautiful grounds and estate at the gate we were told that we were expected and where I should invite mass of iron golem construct of some kind it’s like I have never seen he was a butler to the States owner an ancestor lady elder more Ford Hall parking was imposing configure and we were ushered into a beautiful ball grand chandeliers food and wine like no other they are good lady older more was allowed to stay as we are requested to be on the terraces we are not a member of the family you recognize her and was perfectly happy with allow her to enjoy the best of all we have dessert on the terrace

we came to an agreement if you are confused by his side had lady so long and council ASCO other members of the family she said that she would have inherited and we would be allowed to leave at 5 morning. Ask 3 questions?

There is one stone beyond all others that I most prize. What is the stone of which I speak?"
I have mastered magic and bent it to my will. With it, I have overcome all obstacles. Yet there is one thing that holds even my magic powerless. What is it?"
All my life I have sought knowledge, sacrificing all in my quest. What price are you willing to pay for your quest?"

We were only allowed to search the outside of the estate the gardens at cetera while lady elder Mora was allowed to search the library when we were allowed to cones to communicate between us, the first thing we came upon where a group of very happy dancing ladies that decided they wanted us to dance with them. Danyl seemed more than happy to join them. he actually was quite a good dancer right up until the all vanish in the bushes. we were unable to find him we went to the bushes we do not reappear and we cannot find where he is passed into. a unconscious with a ring of flowers around his neck and covered in bite marks well love bites it would seem not the kind caused by a beast well not really. after a bit of healing we were at least able to get him conscious enough to walk along with us. I’m not sure he would have me on the test or do anything the rest of the day he was delirious on and off most of the day. as you move forward some fairies interacted with a soda fountain covered in sea horses and they danced around with morning and he should have passed out but he was ok and we found a whole bunch of silver and gold dust that was left behind by them. and then we found lady salon she was practicing from Marshall stands. she was an impressive woman or whatever she was given how long her family has been trapped here. I happily sparred with her taking down my familiar with a hammer and taking off all marks of magic or armor that I had up on me we had a good fight she took me down once. ship flooded my skill when I was on earth and then she offered to give me a gift skill or speech synonym at first I was scared and then change my mind to speed. while there is a part of me that wish I had chosen neither the fact that I seem to be getting an extra job in at the end of every interaction if my phone has been an asset even if I do find myself a bit weaker these days not to mention the scar on my cheek I’ve had more than a couple people show garlic at me give him a strange puncture wounds on my cheek.

but over the course of the evening I realized how much Lord Harkon love to his wife and how hard he worked to get her to love him and we realized the stone was his tombstone the gift with love and what we would give up with time because I realized he was cursed drawing spirit and life from anyone touch and it was a ring that he’d given her that allowed her to not be affected by this so we agreed on a price in each one of us after giving me answers was drained of one year of my life so we’re told it was a new kind of pain we order more scenes on 105th come find out of the Rings war was in fact that the floor Harkins lost the love it she took her inheritance of 550 gold pieces each as well as some gifts the library deemed essential skill in spells the silver and gold dust had some magical powers of the Sun.

THE WAR
had the team spread very thin for this foray. I was the only one left on the team not directly affected by the spell casting component rationing. The details rationing covered more spells then we could have imagined and were laid out in in the Trumpeter’s latest issue We were summoned by a messenger at my door, no surprise we rushed to Mayor’s office at the behest of the summons. I met only Mok and Morrin there. We were kindly offered tea and breads served on a tray for us while we waited. Lady Belakira, a title we were not immediately offered was waiting to see the mayor as well. A Thayvian ambassador we ascertained later. After a short wait we were escorted in the room as well to meet with Charles Oliver O’kane, Lord Mayor. We were brought up to speed on three missing girls

Missing Girl #1: Ginny green ribbons
• Her name is Ginny and she is 13 years old
• Disappeared from the orphanage 12 days ago during the night, no one reported seeing anything
• Her parents wp. ere reported to be smugglers caught and hung by city officials

Missing Girl #2: Helena
• Was the daughter of Beckwith, owner of the House of Sole (a cobbler)
• Often played with Ginny and Carolynn from the orphanage

Missing Girl #3: Carolynn pink ribbons
• Was actually the first girl to disappear, about 3 weeks ago
• Has a history of running away so was not reported until a week ago
• Her father was a cleric of some kind

The Girls were last seen near
The Lady of Mercy Orphanage:
• Has been part of the city for over 30 years without any problems or incidents
• Is run by a cleric of Ilmater named Gieven
• Is located on the west side of the river, just on the other side of Crow’s End

Belakira was also at the mayor’s office to complain about a missing 12 year old slave girl. We were informed a writ was not an option at this time as some adventurers have been abusing them. To avoid any issues with the Thayvians who seemed to be the only ones not attacking us yet. We were asked to question her last and only if absolutely necessary.

We then made straightaway to the “Lady of Mercy orphanage”. We took time to meet with the Cleric Gieven who was not terribly helpful. He really didn’t have much more information than I already had acquired from the Lord Mayor . He raised some suspicion especially from Mok as he was rather opposed to us looking around his basement to see if there is any alternate passages. He was worried we would disturb his organization and, storage, and record keeping systems.

Well we discussed matters with the clergy we noticed there was a great deal of markings of walking about the building we were a bit confused given the clergy use commitment will matter evidently the old orphanage was originally a temple to Joaquin years ago before the districts were created. We were able to search the girls rooms in the attic and came across underneath the floorboards a spark of magic. Under Carolyn’s bed we found a small scroll tube. the clerical scroll had three spells on it speak with plants, speak with dead, and stone tell. We gave it to the cleric to give to the girl should she return. Best of the left by her father who was rumored to be A cleric.

Mok got into a bit of a heated debate with Gieven about searching the down stairs eventually then he were asked us to leave. The investigation being listed as a simple runaway incident by the first investigation left him no admiration for the watch and its members, whether we were on duty or not.

As we left we were pelted with requests for needs of the children. No toys were begged for , just shoes. I made not of there requests in colors but forgot to get sizes.
We were after all off to see the cobbler anyway.

We left the orphanage and set out to meet Beckwith a cobbler by trade and Helena’s father. We discussed his daughter for quite a bit but he knew little other than the fact that he used to see her playing near the orphanage with Ginny and Carolyn. I put some orders in for shoes and explained that we would have the clergy stop by with more information to make sure the girls got everything they needed. no matter how the clergy felt about us at this orphanage given the latest interpretation of adventures goodwill we were still going to do everything in our power to make sure they have a good life. Beckwith knew little It seems the war on he was working so much it was all I could do to keep track of Helena for a while I thought you just run off with the girls but it’s been a few weeks now and he fears the worst. We have something unusual has been happening for any unusual people of late and he did produce a single error he said that I was given to him by an old man in the streets one day saying that one day it may save his daughter’s life but he knew nothing of it. He had never been an adventurer and knew nothing of it.

After leaving The House of Sole, we were greeted by some clergy we did not expect, and their pets. Whomever was trying to stop us didn’t try very hard. The stirges and the Talosians that were sent to attack us were dispatched quickly. They didn’t realize that even in threes we were still enough for this band. We called the watch to process them accordingly and moved along our business.

After one last failed attempt to explore the orphanage and explain that we had ordered the shoes we realized the only place left that we hadn’t explored was with Lady Bellakira.

Entering in from the western side we came into the foreign district, the guard there reminding us very much so that We need to be well informed that we are on the soil of other countries when we were up in their areas and to avoid any controversy or issues as we came in we were straight away in and to the right to the Embassy of Thay The embassy had a reputation of a no patience for impudence or rudeness of any kind.

We explain to the lady we were there to investigate the disappearance of three girls as well as her slave I half choked on the last word. The ambassador eyed me intently. The lady almost hissed at me, “ to think I would see the day a paladin would offer up a slave to its master?!”

I explained that at this point the young lady may be in the fire and at least in the frying pan she could dance a little longer, see another day, and also that without her cooperation her ”property ” would be most likely unrecovereable. We were permitted to explore the gardens the last place she was seen. We were warned not to damage any of the royal flowers of Thay. All the time we were watched by the gargoyles. Massive moving pets of the Ambassador’s perched on the roof. There were some random footprints but none of us could really make heads or tails out of it. We did not possess Faldor’s tracking prowess. We realized that we wish we had had the scroll that we left with the cleric. But afterall it was not ours to take so Mok went to Your Heart’s Desire magic shop in order to purchase a scroll with speak with plans. I’m not entirely sure what the conversation held but definitely seems that red roses and white roses don’t like each other and the herb garden is a little pretentious and watching Mach argue with flowers was unsettling. all we found out was you see near the rock garden which didn’t help as much because we couldn’t figure out anything with speak with plants after some research we realized back to the heart’s desire it is and purchased a scroll of stone tell even though there was no evidence around it we thought we’d at least try it thankfully we did because the rocks explain to Mach that the earth had opened up and the good little girl had fallen in.

With the permission of the lady we began to dig and eventually a great opening was found beneath the gas off to the side of the stones and we follow the tunnel down into where it did cross the sewers a few times and then we got into a large open cavern with a large pool inside of it still and silent and black. a single scull floated in the liquid I flew out and picked it up but there really wasn’t much to it. it was left with energy later on so that way they can talk to it since we did not keep the scroll it was small. We charged down the hall and heard chanting and a great stank of inscence.

The massive door loomed before us the chanting just beyond. I went to throw open wide the doors and then everything became very dark and very painful. I felt myself falling. The darkness closed in on me and I felt the stabbing pains in my shoulder I was able to activate my winged boots again and fly up out of what seems to have been a pit and with help get verbal guidance of my companions found ground again. I laid hands upon myself and they walked me around the gaping hole in front of the door we went inside and were able to get the shot off at the giant snake thing about to devour the ambassador’s slave girl. With guidane we were able to dispatch the giant snake and all of the worshipers. It seems we were too late for the other girls most likely by weeks. As soon as we rescued the young girl she vanished with our photos dispatched we gathered everything and went back to the surface. The Ambassador explained her property was returned and that we could go now. Something seemed off about it she seemed I don’t know….I don’t want to use the word thank full or pleasant or cheerful something Just did not smolder the same stoic hatred you usually see of a highborn Thayvian. Now with the kidnapping stopped we all went home for some more rest until tomorrow’s battle started.

Member of the Midnight Menagerie, Adventuring Group
Commander in the Raven’s Bluff War College
Sergeant in the Scout Rangers Division, City Watch of Raven’s Bluff
Squire to the Keepers of the Mystic Flame, Raven’s Bluff Knighthood

There I was sleeping peacefully in the barracks, it had been a long week, with the war going on, proper sleep is hardly the first thing on anyones’ minds, then I hear a loud banging on the door to my room. Apparently a Captain in the Harbor Patrol wanted me for some questioning. Gathering up my things and Dusk I follow the fellow through the dead of night to the Harbor Patrol HQ.

I found myself in a brightly lit room with, surprise, several other members of the Menagerie. Oddly enough the other half of the room was dark. As we are sitting there a voice booms from the other side of the room telling us that we are all suspects in some sort of crime. We are asked to give our names and positions within the city while some lady is asked which of us looked right. After some time Captain Catherine Kinkaid, the Commander of the Harbor Patrol stepped in and identified Faldor and Tepal as being the prime suspects in the matter of a kidnapped boyfriend. They were then separated from us and placed under arrest. We did what we could to persuade the Commander of the nonsense of the matter, but she would not be moved without further interrogation of them under the use of magic.

As dawn broke we were moved out, Tepal and Faldor under arrest, and the rest of us in protective custody (it seemed that a number of attacks had apparently been being committed by adventurers recently). As we moved towards the main City Watch barracks we found ourselves surrounded by several (and I do mean a lot) angry citizens. Now we were being accused of murdering some ladies daughter.

You know what a bad day looks like? One where you are awoken in the early hours of the morning with no explanation, then rushed across town to be accused of kidnapping. Then you watch some of your closest friends be placed under arrest, followed by being accosted by several citizens who were ready to bring the pitchforks and have you strung up while blaming you of murdering some ladies daughter. All of this before the sun is even halfway up, and worst of all, without a drink. That’s a bad day.

Dresden, thank Mystra, managed to talk the irate crowed down after a very tense 30 seconds or so and got them to disperse. From there we headed to the main barracks where finally Tepal and Faldor are cleared of charges via magical interrogation. We were then greeted by Rolf Sunriver who asks us if we would be willing to help investigate the recent string of wrongdoing’s by adventurers. We ask him several questions, gaining a few different leads and learn the extent of the kidnapping. Apparently some thirty people had been kidnapped, of various ages, and it had started about a week ago. We find out that several of these strange collars were involved in some way, or at least correlated (and we had heard mention of these earlier concerning the kidnapped boyfriend).

After talking with Rolph we decide to head to Tim’s Supple Leather Shop, which as we learned from Rolph (or perhaps someone mentioned it earlier, regardless) was the source of these strange neck collars that had become all the rave. After arriving at TIm’s shop we listen to some squabble between him and this lady, I think she was his wife, reminds me of why I chose to live a life of adventure rather than settle down. Finally we question him about the collars and learn that some Wizard had purchased several collars. A few other people, Sailors namely had also purchased them, but the Wizard seemed to be the ticket buyer. The fella was said to be in tattered clothes and had a bad wound on his neck (now that I think of it, I believe I remember hearing the lady who accused Faldor and Tepal mention seeing someone who fit this description). We buy some collars just in case, and Faldor made a specialty order that sounded like he planned on making use of in his own time, behind closed doors (I’m glad he doesn’t discuss these things when we patrol in the Scout Ranger’s together, I’m not sure I could handle it).

Getting the information we leave, only to accosted by a Will of the Sea, a creature from the plane of- Raven’s-Loft- Ravenloft. We do battle with the wretched creature, eat some lightning from it, and send it back to whatever hellhole it came from.

Next we head to Quaylands Home for Wayward Boy’s, an orphanage, the boyfriend (Robbie) of our initial accuser was from here. We meet with the person in charge and talk with several of the children. They seem to have collars themselves, there were told by some Preacher that the collars would protect them, so they purchased several themselves. After a while Gevus heard some coughing behind a door but when we asked the Patron he dismissed our questions, asking if we had any reasons for such an inquiry. Well, after some squabbling between him and Mok we eventually left, with not much more learned.

Finally, we decide to head to the docks. Rumors that the “preacher” had been seen around that area suggested it as a good of a place as any. A few hours we spent walking about before we found a shack that matches previous information that we had obtained. Looking inside we find our mystery man, who unfortunately looked to be sickly. Tepal walked up to investigate, finding a rather nasty gash on his neck. The man started to seize as the gash on his neck began to pulse and ooze with blood and pus, before a creature that looked like something out of a horror book burst out and tried to attack Tepal. The creature seemed to have the ability paralyze as her and Mok ended up unable to move. Finally, our newly turned Paladin put a use to his power of good and squashed the creature like the slimy little worm (with many teeth) that it appeared to be.

We finally resuscitated the Preacher who then informed us that there was a bigger badder version of our toothy little worm friend underwater near a shipwreck. Summoning some weird aquatic creatures, the Preacher directed us to use them, rather forcibly, and surprise, they allowed us to breath under water. Swimming down we found the shipwrech, along with a bunch of sharks, a weresharck, and the bigger badder version of the worms. It was another creature from Ravenloft.

The fight wasn’t too bad, though once blood was spilled the sharks became a little more violent. Thankfully Gevus and I carry some Shortswords that are specifically designed for fighting under water creatures and they helped to make short work of them. Sushi was served. Well, it wasn’t sushi I had any plans on eating, at any rate, but the deed was done and the day was saved. At least for us it seemed to be. I’m sure there are some other people in the city needing help.

Afterwords we figured out that the worm creature had been controlling the Wizard/Preacher who had been behind the misled blame against adventurers. Now, time for a drink and a nap.

It’s been pretty dreary in dark days here at the city a few of us have met here at the sleepy dwarf tavern to try and alleviate a bit of the wars stream. the beaches and harbor of late have been pummeled by waves the height of a mountain or or at least a mountain giant . the door came flinging open to the tavern and a young man stepped in staring bolt straight out of and then the crackle and stink of ozone filled the room. it had that magical tint to it that I have come all too familiar with thanks to are currently missing Morin. last we heard he had been pinned down for a few days so the group on the south side. The poor young man fell to the ground eyes wide and twitching. I ran to him but he was already gone. In his hand he held a note addressed to the now official midnight menagerie.

Greetings brave adventurers of Raven’s Bluff.
It is with great trepidation that I must solicit your services.
A great evil is upon the city. Please meet me at my home
In 1 hour so that I may discuss it with you.

Lord Chancellor Kothonos

The Lord Chancellor met with us quickly and got to the dark business at hand it seems that many noteable noble have been kidnapped fromn the city and in one instance the Lady was not take and sadly in the process we lost one , "Rolf “Sunny” Sunriver, Chief Constable is Dead". He said with anger and as if he was trying to convince himself.

IT was explained to us that multiple members of the city’s upper echelon had been removed from all over the city last night . The culprits were a group called and somewhat self-titled; The Circle of Four, a group of elementalists. Specialty wizards Jarendella Fireblade a fire specialist, Mortimer Lightfoot an air elementalist, Marina Waterblade of course specializing in water, and Maurice Stone specializing in earth. Of all the people that took on these four the only one to still be available in the city is Catherine Morillon Blacktree. We of course explained that we would be more than happy to take care of this for the Lord Chancellor and headed out immediately with a writ giving us full permission to investigate with with the understanding than anyone we would show this to while in the city walls would understand we are working for the city directly.

As we were living the city hall we were met by Tilly Rockcrusher of the City watch’s Night Watch division. She had just come from the Blacktree estate a friend of hers Sarah a halfling cleric of Mystra was badly poisoned and was now resting at the Temple of Mysteries. The Attacker was Mortimer Lightfoot and he was seen wearing symbol’s of …Cyric? This did not match our profile of him so the end game became even more blurry . We talked briefly about some of the kidnappings and how surprised she was that Lady Blacktree escaped on he own .
,…………

….. we made our way next to Rolf Sunriver’s home now under guard. After explaining to the guard not only that we had a writ but that we had a writ but that a few of us are members of the watch he was about to allow us to pass. Unfortunately at this same time Rolf’s wife and daughter returned home. We let them come in with us they were aghast the way the place looked and we had to tell them he was gone. They were a mix of shock and sorrow. And we explained we would bring them to justice they gathered things to return to a friends place for now for safety after some debate. Thankfully this was before we found Rolf’s body we thought he had already been removed and taken to the Temple District. As we searched for clues we came across a journal belonging to rolf that had note on the hunt for the Cirvle of Four.

I have discovered that Longbottle and Marina Waterdale were engaged.
Apparently something happened—the wedding never took place.
After the wedding was called off Marina devoted all of her time and energy
to her studies. She rose quickly through the ranks until she was virtually
unmatched in terms of her capabilities. Those who knew her said that whenever
she spoke of Lord Calvin, there was a bitter tone in her voice and her words were
usually something to the effect that he would pay for the suffering that he had caused her.
Her closest friend Ariella is a frequent patron of the Shark Fin Restaurant and Tavern.
She might know where to find Marina. Meeting arranged with her for tomorrow afternoon
at three bells.
Must try to aprehend Maria without hurting her. I can’t help feeling responsible in someway
for what has happened.
I have also learned that friends of the other members of the Circle of Four like to gather
everyday at Sharky’s Bar and Grill for lunch. The friends are Isadora Spiritwind, Clem Starlight
and Rupert Nightingale, and they are the best friends of Jerendella Fireblade, Mortimer
Lightfoot, and Maurice Stone respectively. If I can’t get any information out of Ariella then
I might have to try and locate one of these others.

A Shipwreck For Kassy
Adventure 3-45

Players Present: Dannel, Dreseden, Faldor, Mok, Morrin, Tepal

Players Absent: Gevus

The group is hired by Harold Pierre the proprietor of the Crescent Moon Inn. There is an old halfling ship that crashed nigh on 50 years ago, and he wants to get it for his love, Lady Kassandra. She will have her own Halfling ship to captain, and the city will have a naval vessel it can use during the war. Why is this important, because in addition to being a ship, the ship itself is magical and can move exceedingly fast, but only a halfling can captain her.

The group sets off through a hidden passage out of town that only a few high level officials know about. The party is blindfolder and have waxed placed in their ears so they can not be captured and give away its secret. After coming outside of the city, they follow the map and come upon a camp of drow, who look like they are killing, and skinning some deer, perhaps to feed themselves or even the enemy army.

There is a path right up the center, but there is a big pile of skulls that way, so Dresden decides to speed around to another entrance of the rocks, as others act, the party gets badly spread out and combat ensues. The downside is the hidden drow magus and Wizard that then join the fray. A long battle ensues with tons of tentacles, clouds, darkness, light, Daylight going off, a huge magical battle on the hill. The party does manage to succeed, Morrin barely surviving the attack of the enemy magus, and the group managing to defeat him, but the invisible wizard was never found, and one of the warriors managed to get away as well. The group makes camp, finding a lost group of Ravenaar that they protect for the evening, but they then make their way out to see the next morning.

As they walk out to sea, under the sea perhaps, they find the site of a lost battle where the City’s Tempites helped push back some Sahaugin. Now there are sea Zombies inhabiting the resting place. The group manages to thwart then, and eventually a reef giant that was experimenting on some sea elves.

The elves take the party to the nearest Underwater Elven city and the party meets the king. After news of why the land lovers need they ship, he lets them search his “treasury” for it. The group eventually finding the ship, and slaying a few more underwater undead. They set sail for the city of Raven’s Bluff, and catching the pirates in the bay unaware of it’s amazing speed, it sneaks up the fire river, and into the Crow’s End Harbor. The group is rewarded by Ren with many a gift of thanks from the city.

Exploits of the Midnight Menagerie
Log Entry by Dresden Drumheller
Sergeant in the Sewer Brigade Division of the City Watch
Knight of the Order of the Griffon

What has happened around the city I have called home for the past two years? The trauma that has overtaken us in the past few days is far more than I could have imagined. The Menagerie and I have been tending to our and the city’s wounds. At the same time trying to unravel who or what is behind these attacks. Now we try to legitimize and second guess our decisions on where we went during the attack. Currently the Navy has been crippled thankfully we were able to save a few ships but the blockade of sunken ships will take time to clear to allow travel at normal and full intervals. Last night at The Roost the Griffons there was a dead silence and a darkening despair now that only four Griffons are left in the area so many hatchlings lost.

In the wake of the attacks the city officials have declared martial law and a curfew to gain order while they start clearing out the troubles of the city. This morning we were summoned by Sir Alexander the Noble lead knight of the Right Hand of Tyr. I only assumed that there was some conscription and military offensive that were about to take. It seems our team skills would be needed elsewhere. We were few this day. Tepal and Danell were currently being exceptionally utilized at the temple of mystery and the temple of Illmater since the temple of Tyr had been ransacked and destroyed. In the attack Pax’s newest gem has become missing. PAX has been giving me some strange inclinations of where the gem may be but most is just grey and shadow. I’m not going to lie I have been second guessing my decision about allowing the Ogres to go out of the city to save the woman and the child, I sleep better knowing they live. If the gem is to be found and rejoin it will be so in time. Whether it was with them or another.

Gevus, Mok, Morrin, and myself Alex the noble he explained to us that with all of the attacks recently the ambassadors from other neighboring kingdoms and countries had returned home. One of them being the ambassador from Procampor. On his way back it seems they were attacked there are few bodies found horses gone and it seemed that they were escorted by Oster Offerhaus Knight of the Golden Roosters with the Silver Dragoons. He was escorting them back to Procampor. Six Dragoons missing the Ambassador in question being a tall grey bearded man with long hair and a long scar there were 3 others in his entourage including a young man from a Noble house of Prampor who bore the name Alex. No relation and not to be confused with the Right Hand that summoned us in the first place. The rabble of humanoid monsters that attacked the city are still all over the hills and countryside. Another team went in search of the ambassador previously they also came across information that five members of the purple Lancers were found dead but Jared Delvelio was missing.
We all agreed immediately to serve the city in its hour of need and backed our own mounts and headed out. The city is short on steeds and we had to supply our own and they said they would pay well for any recovered. WE introduced this grand and wise knight to a hedgehog. Mok explained that should he fail completely he would return with any news if possible.

After a day of Travel we met a sizeable group on the road going in the direction of the City. We introduced ourselves in general terms and asked if they had seen any travelers meeting our missing ambassador’s description. Upon mentioning the city of Raven’s Bluff and confirming that we were from there we fell to battle quickly. I emerged from a group of writhing red tentacles and jumped from my horse to engage one soldier but was overcome by possibly 6 or seven of them that pushed me back into the wiping tendrils and I was pinned with the wailing and dying horses. Morrin and Gevus were able to twist out of the snare and Mok flew up and away on Victoria’s back (his horse). From the high vantage he was able to throw down fire onto the cleric priest and soldiers. I got off a few misses of power from my magical ring striking the cleric enough to distract and overwhelm him to allow the others to close. After a minute or two all was silent and we realized we were glad they had horses too. Ours did not fare as well as I they had been crushed and overwhelmed by poisonous gas. Not heavy warhorses like our own but would do well. The extras we tied along to offer to the city. To this day we have no idea why they hated the city.

WE came to a hill crest and thought it would be a good place to rest till we realized what was in the valley. Hundreds of camps lay over the area as I reached out to sense evil in the area near us I felt nothing. It concerned me as it was not nothing as in the lack of evil it was nothing. Pax was quiet. When the others reached out to sense magic they found nothing not even Pax. The finger wigglers called it a magic dead zone and it seemed to move as the camp spread and set up for the night. The army massed before us. WE realized Sir Alex needed to know thins right away after some planning I pointed out that Sir Alex was introduced to Mr. Pointy so Mr. Pointy was teleported pack to the office with a report.

The next morning we moved on as had the cap of the creatures army. We continued our travel to Procampor and cam straight upon The Dragoons the Ambassador and a few citizens of Procampor . Before we made much more than introductions we realized the ambassador was screaming at a tree and loading kindling before it to start a fire in the middle of the day. The ambassador was beside himself with rage saying it took Tahl the son of the house of ALEX. The noble house of Procampor. Seems he and a dryad had a relationship and she wanted to keep him. Through some bribery of our own volition and a helping onf diplomacy the ambassador seems to have lost we negotiated Tahl’s release. While we were requested to return all to Raven’s Bluff we agreed to escort them home.

We did have one delay with some road briggands and others but they were dispatched quickly. After returning all to Procampor we returned home to a content but dissapointed Sir Alex.
